Umbria - The Green Heart of Italy...
Umbria is known as the "Green Heart" of Italy for it's lush, mountainous landscape, full of oak and olive trees. To many people, it is the Tuscany of yesteryear, a bucolic heaven where time rolls back and seems to slow down. Hills, forests, olive groves ... villages, valleys, vineyards ... in Autumn we see nature changing color with the season, each shade telling a story.
Villages You Will Explore...
Assisi
Perugia
Orvieto
Spello
Gubbio
Panicale
This Getaway Is For You If...
You have always wanted to witness the grandeur of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. You relish the thought of experiencing world renowned food and wine. Historic walks through the past awaken your curiosity. You're a fan of ceramics, linens, and art ... especially when locally made. The thought of uncovering hidden gems sounds fascinating. You love dining al fresco and you're enamoured by actual frescoes. Mother Nature rocks your socks. Temperatures in the 70's (22 celcius) are your comfort zone. You prefer to mingle with local people and immerse yourself in their way of life. Visiting medieval villages is irresistible to you. And travelling with an intimate group of like-minded women, with more time on foot and less in a vehicle is your jam. There will be a good amount of walking, so comfortable shoes and an appropriate level of fitness is required. Umbria is full of hill towns, so think 10,000-20,000 steps per day with steep hills, stone stairs, and beautiful cobblestones.

Itinerary...
Day 1, Wednesday - October 13 - Umbria
Total Driving Time: Rome Airport 2:30 hours
The Green Heart of Italy...
Meet our drivers at Rome Airport by 2:00pm. Then, prepare to be blown away by the lush wonders of Umbria, the green heart of Italy. Here there is an emotional quality to the environment. Unlike parts of Italy that can feel performative and crowded, Umbria still carries a sense of authenticity. People greet you. Shopkeepers remember you. Connections happen naturally. It's a magical feeling that allows you to breathe a little more deeply. Upon arrival to our hotel in Assisi, guests check in, enjoy a bit of relaxation, then head to the bar for what has become a Solo In Style ritual ... the meet and greet introductions. Chilled prosecco will be flowing as we get to know each other. Dinner is served al fresco, with the most spectacular view up to the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. From our viewpoint, it may very well be the most imposing display of grandeur to be witnessed.
Day 2, Thursday - October 14 - Assisi
Total Driving Time: 0:00 hours
St Francis of Assisi...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. Assisi overlooks the plain crossed by the Topino and Chiascio rivers. Built with the typical “pink stone” of Mount Subasio on which it rests, the city boasts a millenary history with important Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance remains. Here we meet our guide Louise to walk in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi, where the saint and the order he founded left numerous testimonies. One of the most venerated figures in Christianity, Francis (1181-1226) was canonized by Pope Gregory IX two years after his death. He is commonly portrayed wearing a brown habit with a rope tied around his waist, featuring three knots symbolizing the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Saint Francis is also associated with a stout patronage of animals and of the environment. Lunch is served on a beautiful terrace with impressive views. Guests then have free time to explore the village, pop in and out of shops, or hike up to the Rocca Maggiore. In the evening we all meet for aperativos at our beautiful hotel, followed by an exceptional dinner at Re Tartù.
Day 3, Friday - October 15 - Perugia
Total Driving Time: 1:00 hour
The Capital of Umbria...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. An important Etruscan centre, a prosperous Roman municipium, and a renowned Medieval city ... Perugia preserves the remains of ancient civilizations, harmoniously integrated within an exceptional cultural and social environment. This is enriched by a renowned food, wine, and craft tradition, alongside contemporary artistic initiatives. Louise meets us in the town square for an unforgettable tour of the incredible city of Umbria. Guests will be introduced to Perugina chocolates and their famous BACI (chocolate kiss), each of which contains a unique love note.
Day 4, Saturday - October 16 - Gubbio and Spello / Truffle
Total Driving Time: 2:00 hours
Something...
Sleep in, coffee and breakfast. Our welcome dinner is under the stars.
Day 5, Sunday - October 17 - Lake Trasimeno / Piegaro
Total Driving Time: 1:30 hours
Boat Tour, Wine Paired Dinner...
A bit of extra sleep this morning, followed by coffee and breakfast. Prepare to be blown away by our next destination, nestled on a five-hundred-hectare estate with ancient Etruscan paths. I Borghi dell'Eremo offers indulgence and well-being in an enchanting natural setting. The hotel is completely eco-sustainable, plastic-free, and utilizing green energy production for power. Everything here is either produced on the farm or sourced from local businesses, respecting both the community and environment. Along the drive today, we make a stop at Lake Trasimeno ... known for it's gentle landscapes, three beautiful islands, and fish delicacies. A private boat will be waiting to take us on a relaxing and scenic tour. We eventually dock at Isola Polvese, the largest of the three islands. Here we have free time to walk and explore an authentic treasure of historical monuments and natural landscapes. The fortress is not to be missed. We then meet up at a delicious restaurant where lunch is served. A short boat ride and drive eventually takes us to our new sanctuary. Guests check in, nest, and enjoy a bit of solo time before meeting at Essenza Ristorante for a 4-course dinner with wine pairing.
Day 6, Monday - October 18 - Spa Services / Panicale
Total Driving Time: 0:40 minutes
Massage, Hike, Sunset Dinner...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. Today is about the simple pleasures in life. After breakfast we have a nature walk through the forrest of the property. The afternoon is then spent at the exceptional Eterea Spa. Offering a combination of indoor and outdoor wellness paths, treatment and mud cabins, baths and relaxation rooms ... the spa hosts just a small handful of guests at a time. The exclusive use areas include panoramic whirpool equipped with geyser, hydromassages with submerged sunbeds, steam room, emotional shower and ice waterfall, as well as an herbal tea and detox buffet. The hotel also offers a greenhouse library, tennis courts, swimming pool, e-bikes, and more. Lunch is solo. In the evening we have a short drive to the enchanting village of Panicale, where we enjoy an Italian passeggiata ... a leisurely evening stroll through town to mingle with the local community. Dinner is then served in the town square at Osteria Il Gallo nel Pozzo. Simone from Panicale and his wife Lorena from Sicily are pleased to welcome us. Their food is beyond!
Day 7, Tuesday - October 19 - Orvieto
Total Driving Time: 1:30 hours
Ancient Underground Civilization, Italian Gin...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. Perched on a dramatic 325-meter volcanic tufa cliff, Orvieto's history spans nearly 3,000 years. Today we step back in time as Louise takes us on a guided walking tour of the majestic Old Town in Orvieto, which was founded by Etruscans, dominated by Romans, and celebrated by Popes over its thousands of years of history. We'll visit the Orvieto Cathedral, St Brizio Chapel, Del Moro Tower, as well as Orvieto's subterranean city ... a 2,500-year-old labyrinth of Etruscan and medieval tunnels, wells, and chambers, offering a unique glimpse into ancient life. Marvel at the Mill of Saint Clare and the intricate St. Patrick's Well. Lunch is solo, as is time for shopping and exploring. Back at our beautiful hotel, we all meet at sunset for aperativos. Rame is a small distillery in Perugia that produces the London Dry Gin "Ginco". This along with our hotel's own saffron-flavored gin "Croco" will be used in the tasting of two cocktails, along with a savory and sweet snack to enhance the flavors. Yummy mocktails are also up for grabs. Dinner is displayed under the stars.
Day 8, Wednesday - October 20 - Città della Pieve / SIS Party
Total Driving Time: 40 minutes
Biomimic Farming, Solo In Style Signature Party...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. Today we visit a biomimic farming project called Quintosapore. Experience their multi-disciplinary approach to agriculture, where you will learn about reviving forgotten varieties, breathing life into ancient crops, experimenting with biodiversity, and farming the Quintosapore way – using Biomimicry wisdom and a bit of Quantum Physics. After the guided visit, you will be treated to a fabulous outdoor lunch where a full course tasting menu is served, featuring all the fresh vegetables harvested on the day, cooked on the outdoor wood-fire Ofyr and GreenEgg Kitchen. Our meal includes plenty of Malmaturo wine, made with an Etruscan forgotten grape variety, exclusively grown on the Quintosapore farm. We head back to our hotel for a bit of rest before Dario, our professional photographer, arrives to capture amazing photos of everyone. These are our gift to you. The photo shoot is followed by our signature Solo In Style party ... the theme will be announced during our pre travel Zoom call. Dinner is served al fresco.
Day 9, Thursday - October 21 - Olive Harvest
Total Driving Time: 0:00 hours
Something...
Morning stretch, coffee and breakfast. Today we finally hunt for the elusive truffle. Learn all about this delicious mushroom, with a mouth-watering lunch to boot. Our final dinner is a celebration of dreams and possibilities. It's never too late to move, change, or simply add the most wonderful elements to your life.
Day 10, Friday - October 22 - Home Sweet Home
Driving Time: Guest's Choice of Airport
Until Next Time...
Bid a reluctant yet grateful farewell to Umbria. You leave with the most exceptional memories, a Solo in Style outlook on the future, and an all new set of FANTASTIC FRIENDS to boot! Transport to your chosen airport will be arranged.

Accommodations
First we check in to a thermal springs spa hotel, in a village situated high above the Val d'Orcia. Bagno Vignoni was a healing and refreshment point for numerous pilgrims who traveled the Via Francigena on their way to Rome ... one of the main destinations for the Christian pilgrimages. The small village is home to just 17 residents, and the family who owns the hotel has been welcoming guests for four generations.
Next we arrive to Villa Bramasole, which dates back to 600 AD. The main house is what was featured in the movie ... a light-yellow home with green shutters and terracotta roof tiles. As soon as you walk through the front door, you recognize the faucet from scenes in the movie. Wander through the living room, expansive dining room, kitchen, and one bedroom on the main floor, before heading upstairs to discover four more bedrooms.
The creators of your experience in Umbria...

Deborah Ives
Founder, Solo In Style
Deborah has always loved to travel and when she found herself suddenly divorced at age 50, her response was to go it alone. It was scary, fabulous, and empowering, in equal measure, and she was instantly hooked. As a solo female traveler over the age of 50, a huge and growing demographic, Deborah felt ignored by the travel industry. This prompted her to create Solo In Style with the idea of connecting like-minded women through their solo travels. Alongside a successful 30-year career in marketing, fine wine and culinary arts, Deborah, now aged 65, continues to expand Solo In Style globally to encourage and support as many women as possible to fulfill their solo travel ambitions.
