Itinerary...
Day 1, Wednesday - October 14 - Susafa
Total Driving Time: 1:45 hours from Palermo Airport

Arrival, Welcome Dinner...
Arrive to Palermo Airport where a driver is waiting to take you to the Sicilian countryside. Check in to our beautiful hotel near the Madonie Mountains. There are places that lend themselves to becoming a true refuge for the soul, and Susafa most definitely qualifies. It is a place of authentic silence, where the heartbeat of the land echoes through sweeping fields and tranquil hills. Here we experience centuries-old traditions and rituals through flavors, scents, and slow stories. Susafa practices sustainable agriculture by growing all of their own ingredients to create pasta, sauce, olive oil, bread, jam, wine, and even cosmetics. Through 5 generations of the Rizzuto family, this estate has evolved into a magical preservation of the glorious peasant culture. Check in to your room, full of country style and Sicilian charm, then join us for a meet and greet aperativo in the bar. Here is where wine was once produced exclusively for internal use and not for commercial purposes, then distributed to the family and farm workers. The space is beyond gorgeous. Next, our welcome dinner is served.

Day 2, Thursday - October 15 - Time On The Farm
Total Driving Time: 0:00 hours

Massages, Picnic, Wine Tasting..
Blissful morning stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Today we simply relish the remarkable property that is Susafa. Guests are invited to reserve a therapeutic massage under the Carob Tree. In the afternoon, baskets full of delicious food and excellent wine are brought to a little sanctuary surrounded by the greenery of the trees and the amber of the fields, in the pristine nature of Susafa. Here we indulge in pure relaxation as we enjoy a Solo In Style picnic. After lunch, take some time to visit the nearby cabin and let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the landscape. At Susafa, the Sicilian wine tasting is an event not to be missed. It takes place at the Bar in the company of Manfredi, who will expertly guide us on a journey of island discovery through tastings of spontaneously fermented and biodynamic wines, explaining how they express Sicily's diverse terroirs. We'll travel the entire Sicilian landscape, tasting up to ten wines that will tell the story of it. It's a complete sensory experience where scents, colors, and flavors bring to life an educational moment, rich in history and culture. Our magnificent dinner is then prepared using the farm's locally sourced ingredients.

Day 3, Friday - October 16 - Cefalù
Total Driving Time: 2:00 hours

Shopping, Dining, Exploring...
Blissful morning stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Today we visit one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Sicily, that even with it's immense popularity, has retained all of it's old world charm. A donkey delivers produce one street at a time, while baskets on ropes lower the trash from upper balconies. Cefalù's old town is a captivating blend of medieval charm and historical significance, offering a glimpse into Sicily's rich past. Our guided tour begins in the Piazza Duomo, also known as Cefalù’s living room, as it is lined by small trattorias with tables on the square, gelato spots, bars for a pre-dinner aperitif, and the magnificent cathedral ... a UNESCO-listed Arab-Norman jewel dating back to 1131. In the Piazza we sample our first granita. We then continue on to discover the history of this incredible gem. Lunch is solo as we want to give you freedom to explore at your own pace. We suggest to try the famous Arancini rice balls at Sfrigola, where the food is made fresh to order. Guests have the option to climb the Rocca di Cefalù, where we see the ruins of a medieval castle dating back to the 12th century, and the remains of the Temple of Diana, a megalithic monument. The summit provides 360-degree views of the Sicilian coastline, the town of Cefalù, and the surrounding countryside. We all meet for a scrumptious, sunset dinner.

Day 4, Saturday - October 17 - Parco delle Madonie
Total Driving Time: 1:45 hours

Mountain Hike, Slow Life Villages...
Blissful morning stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. The Madonie Park offers an unexpected side of Sicily, with the mountains located just a stone's throw from the sea and the villages possessing a unique local identity. It is a place of great interest in terms of biodiversity and geology. The main massif, Carbonara (1,979 meters), is the second highest peak in Sicily after Etna. The villages of the Madonie, beyond being somewhat "typically Sicilian," have something more in common. This can be felt in the atmosphere of their narrow streets, in their architecture and art, and in their local traditions. This mountainous area was, in fact, governed for centuries by a powerful noble family, the Ventimiglias, who left a visible and lasting influence. Before lunch we embark on a guided tour of one of the park's most scenic villages, Petralia Sottana, after which we disappear into the mountains for a serene hike through nature. Lunch is in Petralia Soprano, another precious village of the Parco delle Madonie. We then stop for dessert in Castellana Sicula, where you will be blown away by the sweet selection of cakes and chocolates at Pasticceria Ferruzza. A bit of solo time awaits, before dinner is served at Susafa.

Day 5, Sunday - October 18 - Sicilian Cooking Workshop
Total Driving Time: 0:00 hours
Cooking Class, The Italian Negroni...
Blissful morning stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Our precious Susafa is a property consisting of hectares of wheat fields as far as the eye can see, and an expansive vegetable garden with medicinal plants and aromatic herbs. All of these zero kilometre ingredients will be used in today's cooking workshop, where we learn to make three iconic dishes - arancini, panelle and caponata. In the family atmosphere of Susafa's kitchen, we discover curiosities, myths and legends as Rita teaches us the art of authentic Sicilian cuisine. Later in the day, guests are free to enjoy a bit of solo time. In the evening we all meet up for a Solo In Style chinwag over a classic Italian cocktail. The Negroni is believed to have originated in Florence in 1919 when Count Negroni requested that the bartender strengthen his usual Americano by replacing the soda water with gin and adding an orange peel. It's popularity quickly spread, particularly in Italy and later in America, where it became a staple in speakeasies during Prohibition. Our final dinner here is served before we head out tomorrow to follow our destiny.

Day 6, Monday - October 19 - Shalai
Total Driving Time: 2:20 hours

Mt Etna, Michelin Dinner...
Sleep in, coffee and breakfast. Today we relocate to the slopes of Mt Etna. Our precious hotel in the village of Linguaglossa began as a noble residence in the early 1800's. It was also the original seat of the old town hall. The space was then converted into a boutique hotel with exquisite charm, as the original frescoes, vaulted ceilings, and fine majolica tiles remain. Shalai is home to a beautiful private spa, a Michelin starred restaurant, a comprehensive wine cellar, and a sweet little lounge bar offering spirits, grappas, and a diverse selection of bitters. The hotel is perched quite literally at the foot of Mt Etna. Lunch in the village is solo today, but we recommend something light. Tonight we enjoy an incredible Michelin tasting of Sicilian cuisine.

Day 7, Tuesday - October 20 - Mt Etna
Total Driving Time: 1:00 hour

Hike or Quad Bike, Volcanic Wine Tasting Lunch...
Blissful stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Today we step foot on Mt Etna, the tallest peak in all of Sicily. Guests will have the choice to do short hike, a long hike, or a quad bike experience (2 riders per quad, take turns driving). In the afternoon we visit a local winery, located at high altitude on the slopes of the Volcano, which wildly influences the wine's character. Mount Etna is renowned for its unique volcanic wines, particularly the reds (Etna Rosso) and whites (Etna Bianco), known for their noticeable minerality derived from the volcanic soil. This region's wines are gaining popularity for their distinctive taste and for the story they tell of the land where they are produced. Lunch is served at the winery ... a delicious offering of Mt Etna infused specialties. Dinner is solo in Lingualossa or at our beautiful hotel. A snippet of downtime just for you.

Day 8, Wednesday - October 21 - Taormina / Castelmola
Total Driving Time: 90 minutes

Guided Tour, Sunset Boat Exploration...
Blissful stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Taormina is renowned for its stunning landscapes and historical grandeur, and from Goethe to Oscar Wilde, has captivated the hearts of great minds for centuries. Perched on a rocky promontory high above the sea, Taormina features beautifully restored medieval buildings, breathtaking views around every corner, and an impulsive network of winding streets, strewn with shops, bars and restaurants. We begin the day with a guided tour of this pearl of the Mediterranean, where we visit The Greek Theater, Duomo di Taormina, and the Villa Communale Gardens, once owned by Lady Florence who was kicked out of England for being a beautiful distraction to the royal men. After our tour, there is time to shop along the famous Corso Umberto. Lunch is solo. You may choose to sit in a cozy restaurant, or grab and go one of the best sandwiches in Sicily. Guests have the option to venture up to Castelmola to see some of the hidden gems, such as Antico Caffe San Giorgio where you can experience a "Blandanino" (almond wine), or Bar Turrisi where the rampant decor is a certain male body part. Castelmola's secret ... Lady Chatterly's Lover was from this tiny town. In the early evening, we are transported down to the Mediterranean for a sunset boat tour with aperitivos and a dip in the sea. Dinner is then served.
Day 9, Thursday - October 22 - Ortigia
Total Driving Time: 3:30 hours

Guided Tour, Antico Mercato...
Sleep in, coffee and breakfast. Today we relocate to Feudi del Pisciotto, a beautiful baglio (ancient farm in the countryside) turned luxury hotel. We have exclusive use of this intimate property as we are the only guests. Along the drive to our jaw-dropping accommodations, we visit Ortigia. This tiny island is almost as south as you can go in Italy, and it is simply wonderful. In less than a day you will visit beaches, see ancient Greek temples, eat unforgettable food, and stroll around a Roman amphitheatre. An expert guide is waiting to walk us through the local market, and to show us everything noteworthy. Guests have free time to shop and explore the narrow streets, swim in the sea, and visit the famous perfume shop where the products at our next hotel are created. It is also quite wondrous to just sit and sip and enjoy this little gem of an island. We take a scenic drive to our jaw-dropping hotel, where we are just in time for check in. An unforgettable dinner is served in the evocative vaulted spaces of the old winery, overlooking the barrel cellar, visible through the glass floor. A tranquil sleep awaits.

Day 10, Friday - October 23 - Time On The Farm
Total Driving Time: 0:00 hours

Nature Walk, Bike Through The Forest, Dinner With Wine Pairing...
Blissful stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. Nothing is more beautiful than waking up in an ancient residence, opening a window to take in the breathtaking view, and then savoring a slow breakfast before a walk to discover every corner of Feudi del Pisciotto's expansive and magical property. Our Wine Relais is ideal for anyone who loves to be surrounded by the spectacle of nature. In the afternoon we set off on a gentle bike ride through the cork oak forest of the Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve. The Sughereta is one of the largest areas where cork oaks are found. This evergreen, Mediterranean tree can grow even in dry, arid climates, reaching heights of up to 15 meters and living for centuries. Guests enjoy a relaxed pace pedal on partially dirt trails. You may also want to treat yourself to a bit of self-care with a relaxing massage, therapeutic facial, body scrub, sauna, turkish bath, or a tranquil dip in the pool. Lunch is solo. Dinner is a tour of the winery followed by a 4-course tasting menu paired with 4 glasses of Feudi del Pisciotto wines. After dinner, perhaps a grappa under the stars.

Day 11, Saturday - October 24 - Scicli / Ragusa Ibla
Total Driving Time: 3:20 hours

Two Precious Villages, Agroturismo Lunch...
Blissful stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast. The Trinacria is the three-legged woman that symbolises Sicily, first adopted in 1282 by the Sicilian Vespers. The head of Medusa appears with entwined serpents hair and ears of corn. The ears of wheat represent the fertility of the land, while the three legs stand for the three promontories of Sicily. Today we go in search of the Trinacria as we explore two of Sicily's most precious villages ... Scicli and Ragusa Ibla. The beautiful town of Scicli sits within a dramatic gorge, in a medieval layout of palaces and pink houses, crossed by several waterways which all have a torrential and seasonal character. Enchanting little bridges are perched across these waterways. The village was rebuilt in stunning Sicilian Baroque following the devastating earthquake of 1693, as was Ragusa Ibla. Ragusa Ibla, a hidden gem that will steal your heart, was rebuilt by the aristocracy of the town, so everything you see is done with great opulence. We have a wonderful tour guide showing us everything in both villages today, while also giving us free time to roam. Lunch is savored at a rustic herb farm, where a humorous Italian and his spirited American wife welcome us into their agriturismo. They produce all of their own products, such as flavored pastas, salts, jams, essential oils and more. You won't soon forget this experience. After a long day of exploring, dinner is solo back at our hotel, allowing our guests the freedom to go at their own pace.

The journey would be broken up by a stop for lunch and a walk on the beach. It is also possible to take a short drive to one of several extraordinary experiences. A visit to see the famous mosaics, historical ceramics, a tasting tour, or a nearby village founded by Arabs in the 9th century. The creators of your experience in Sicily...

Deborah Ives
Founder, Solo In Style
Deborah has always loved to travel and when she found herself suddenly divorced at age 50, her response was to go it alone. It was scary, fabulous, and empowering, in equal measure, and she was instantly hooked. As a solo female traveler over the age of 50, a huge and growing demographic, Deborah felt ignored by the travel industry. This prompted her to create Solo In Style with the idea of connecting like-minded women through their solo travels. Alongside a successful 30-year career in marketing, fine wine and culinary arts, Deborah, now aged 65, continues to expand Solo In Style globally to encourage and support as many women as possible to fulfill their solo travel ambitions.
