Join our Solo In Style Morocco Getaway, curated by Deborah Ives, founder of Solo In Style, and Laura Cozik, founder of Team Lipstick

12 Women are Welcome

From Mountains to City to Desert...

The journey begins in the exceptionally beautiful landscape of the Atlas Mountains.  Our private villa is situated on a hilltop, at the apex of the Ourika Valley.  It looks down to the river and groves of olives, oranges and lemons ... and up to the dazzling mountain peaks.  Next we head to the excessively vibrant city of Marrakech.  Here we have exclusive use of one of the most beautiful riads in the Medina, where you can hear the call to prayer from the roof deck.  A riad is a traditional Moroccan house, characterized by a central courtyard, usually with water and gardens ... and in our case, an exceptional collection of art.  Finally, the Stone Desert of Agafay awaits.  Glamping under the stars in complete luxury is one of the most precious and unforgettable experiences.

Places You Will Explore...

Day 3, Saturday - October 17 - M

Total Driving Time:

Berber Market, Saffron Garden, Picnic Lunch...

Blissful morning stretch with Laura, coffee and breakfast.  Today we focus on all things local as we hike through nature to explore neighbouring villages.  We start with a visit to an ancient salt mine at Taourirte.  Unlike sea salt, mountain salt is crushed in mills and has a finer consistency and stronger flavor.  Next we visit Christine’s Saffron Garden.  We are welcomed with a taste of floral water before a guided tour of the organic, botanical garden.  There are 200 variations of essential oils on the property, and of course saffron ... the star of the show.  We learn all about this spice and how it is cultivated and used.  Before leaving, guests experience a natural barefoot path to awaken their precious feet.  Finally, we head to the local Berber Market of Tnine.  Lunch is a picnic in nature.  Back at our villa, there is time to reflect before the day ends with a lovely dinner.

Walking Tour, Dinner in the City...

Sleep in, coffee and breakfast.  Today we relocate to the bustling, vibrant city of Marrakech.  Check in to our private riad in the Medina, where for four spectacular nights, we are the only guests.  Lunch is served on the gorgeous roofdeck.  The afternoon is then spent enjoying the central courtyard of our riad with it's picturesque pool, endless art collection, cocktail bar, and a myriad of thoughtfully designed common spaces throughout the property.  In the evening we venture out into the vibrant city for a walking tour and an amazing dinner.  It's time to experience the wildly unique and intriguing culture of Marrakech.

Day 6, Tuesday - October 20 - M

Total Driving Time:

Historic Tour, Shopping in the Souks...

Blissful stretch on the roofdeck with Laura, coffee and breakfast.  This morning we have another walking tour to discover hidden gems and ancient stories.  Our guide will give us an introduction to shopping in the souks, after which you are free to walk and shop on your own.  We all meet for lunch at a popular rooftop restaurant.  Back at our beautiful riad guests have time to experience the Hammam.  Relax the body, open the mind and liberate the senses.  The Arabic word Hammam literally means to spread warmth, conjuring images of heat and steam.  But the Hammam also spreads a kind of social warmth within where women can truly be themselves.  No need to head out tonight, dinner is served on our roofdeck, where it is perfectly fine to arrive covered in therapeautic oils, allowing them more time to absorb into the skin.

Day 7, Wednesday - October 21 - M

Total Driving Time:

Exotic Gardens, Cooking Class...

Blissful stretch on the roofdeck with Laura, coffee and breakfast.  Today we visit the Majorelle Garden, a one-hectare botanical space and artist's landscape in Marrakesh.  It was created by the French Orientalist artist Jacques Majorelle over almost forty years, starting in 1923, and features a Cubist villa designed by French architect Paul Sinoir in the 1930s.  In 1980 the Jardin Majorelle became the property of Yves Saint Laurent, and today belongs to his foundation.  Lunch is a cooking class at Amal, an organisation that provides a safe and loving space where strong, resilient women can rewrite their narratives and step into their power.  We cook with these impressive women, and we eat what we make.  After, we head back to our beautiful riad for a bit of rest and relaxation.  In the evening we immerse ourselves in the city once again, first with a visit to one of the best, most exotic cocktail bars, and then to a delicious dinner.  Marrakech comes to life after the sun sets over the mountains.

Solo In Style Day of Options...

Blissful stretch on the roofdeck with Laura, coffee and breakfast.  Today we are leaving the schedule open for various options.  At this point you've seen a lot of Marrakech, but there is always more.  The planned activity is to join Deborah and Laura on a guided bike tour around Marrakech.  Pikala bikes is a non-profit agency, owned by a woman, that focuses on bicycle awareness training, employment for Marrakech youth, and bicycle infrastructure in cities to encourage more pedalling and less pollution.  Pikala has taught over 650 women and girls how to ride a bicycle.  Guests may also choose to embark on a hot air ballon ride at dawn ... go on another walking tour to discover the soul of the city ... visit to a nearby olive farm for lunch.  These experiences are not included but we are able to arrange them for you.  Lunch is solo today, we are happy to make arrangements.  Dinner is at Noujoum, the excellent restaurant on the rooftop of our riad.  For our final night we get to enjoy stunning views across the spirited and colorful Medina, while our extraordinary meal is served during the call to prayer.

Deborah Ives

Founder, Solo In Style

Deborah has always loved to travel and when she found herself suddenly divorced at age 50, her response was to go it alone.  It was scary, fabulous, and empowering, in equal measure, and she was instantly hooked.  As a solo female traveler over the age of 50, a huge and growing demographic, Deborah felt ignored by the travel industry.  This prompted her to create Solo In Style with the idea of connecting like-minded women through their solo travels.  Alongside a successful 30-year career in marketing, fine wine and culinary arts, Deborah, now aged 65, continues to expand Solo In Style globally to encourage and support as many women as possible to fulfill their solo travel ambitions.

Our events have a great deal of walking to best explore and enjoy each location.  There will be rocky dirt trails, steep hills, stone stairs and ancient cobblestones.  It is entirely possible that we may walk 5+ miles per day, spending many hours on our feet.  We require all guests to have a base level of fitness that allows them to do that.  We will provide plenty of downtime for rest and recovery and you are welcome to skip a day.  However, we ask that you be cognizant of the itinerary and all that you will experience prior to registering for our event.

If you have special health issues, mobility issues, or take medications, we ask that you advise us prior to registering for our event so that we can ensure there are no red flags and that you are a good fit for the planned itinerary.  Failure to do so could result in a diminished experience as we may be unable to accommodate your needs.
